Richard Smith has worked in the I&R field for 13 years and currently holds AIRS certifications as a Community Resource Specialist, Community Resource Specialist - Aging/Disability, Community Resource Specialist - Database Curator, and holds a Micro-Certification in Coaching. He has also been a certified Senior Health Insurance Information Program (SHIIP) counselor and a certified Options Counselor in the state of North Carolina.
Previously, Richard was the Director of Program Operations for the Alliance of Information and Referral Systems and the Integrated Services Director for Senior Resources of Guilford - an aging and disability resource center located in Greensboro, North Carolina. As Integrated Services Director he supervised their SeniorLine Information and Referral Program, Seniors Wheels Medical Transportation Program, and the Caregiver Assistance Program. During that time, he also coordinated the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program for the United Way of Greater Greensboro and served on the board of the North Carolina Alliance of Information and Referral Systems (NCAIRS).
Richard has given his presentation “Be an I&R Wizard: Identifying and Empowering Problem Callers” at the annual AIRS Conference, the American Society on Aging Conference, and New England Information and Referral Conference and is currently available on AIRS Learn. He has also presented on a number of topics of interest to the aging and disability community such as Scam and Fraud Prevention and Fall Prevention.
