Inform USA Exam Accommodations
Purpose
Inform USA complies with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and applicable Canadian laws by providing reasonable accommodations to candidates that have a disability that substantially limits one or more major life activities. These accommodations are intended to ensure equitable access to the exam without altering its fundamental requirements or compromising exam integrity. Requesting accommodations will not negatively impact a candidate’s standing, evaluation, or eligibility for certification.
Requesting Accommodations
Candidates who require exam accommodations must submit a formal request by completing the Exam Accommodations Request Form. A brief statement outlining the nature of the request is required. If additional information is needed, a brief personal statement or a history of past accommodations may be requested to ensure the accommodation is implemented appropriately and meets the candidate’s needs.
Requests must be submitted at least 30 days prior to the scheduled exam date to allow sufficient time for review and implementation. Requests requiring extensive review may take longer to process.
Types of Accommodations
Accommodation requests are evaluated individually, taking into account the candidate’s specific needs and the type of accommodation requested. Common accommodations may include, but are not limited to:
-
Extended testing time: (e.g., time and a half or double time)
-
Assistive technology: (e.g., use of screen-reading software)
-
Alternative question presentation: (e.g., permission to read questions and answer options aloud)
-
Access to necessary items: (e.g., permission to take medications during the exam or use medical devices)
-
Restroom breaks: (e.g., permission may be granted as needed based on medical necessity)
Review and Approval Process
All requests will be reviewed by Inform USA’s Certification Staff. Candidates will be notified via email of the approved accommodations. If additional information is needed, candidates may be contacted for clarification.
Appeals
Candidates who are dissatisfied with the outcome of their accommodation request may submit an appeal within 10 business days of receiving the decision. Appeals will be reviewed by the Certification Commission.
Implementation of Accommodations
Once accommodations are approved, Inform USA will coordinate with the exam proctor to ensure the necessary arrangements are in place.
Confidentiality
All accommodation requests and any supporting documentation will be kept strictly confidential and used solely for the purpose of evaluating and implementing accommodations. Documentation will not be shared beyond the necessary personnel responsible for accommodation review and implementation.
