The Ethics of Self Care and Cycle of Burnout - COPY
Burn out is a risk factor for any position, even one that you may be extremely passionate about. The state of burn out in our brains is biological, and has nothing to do with lack of grit, gratitude, passion, or compassion. This training will review the state of development of burn out, or crisis state, in our brain and how intentional and deliberate self care can reduce instances of burn out and/or heal our brains when we experience burn out. We have an ethical responsibility to those we serve to keep our brains healthy so that we can do our job best and provide help and assistance when needed - this amount of help and work is not possible when you are constantly reaching a state of burn out. Join this session for practical tips and explanations of self care for prevention and healing. Burn out can happen, and there is no shame in that, we have a professional responsibility on a personal and managerial level to do our best to keep our brains functioning through self care and boundaries so that we can continue to help those in need.
After attending this course, participants will be able to:

Apply skills learned for balancing cortisol/stress levels

Sherrard Crespo, LCSW
Sherrard Crespo, LCSW is a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who obtained her master degree in social work from Louisiana State University in 2017. Her professional background is highlighted by her work with suicide education, prevention, intervention, and postvention. Sherrard is currently employed with VIA LINK in the position of Vice President of External Affairs where her current duties include: clinical oversight of VIA LINK's 24/7 contact center, community outreach and education on VIA LINK services as well as specialized skills and information on suicide response, crisis intervention, grief, and trauma. Sherrard also facilitates VIA LINK’s support group: Survivors of Suicide Loss. She also serves as Director of Prevent Child Abuse Louisiana (PCAL), Louisiana’s chapter of Prevent Child Abuse America in which her current focus includes education and advocacy for the community and professionals to support Louisiana families and prevent child abuse.
